Fix Your Steering: How to Set Up 1/12 Scale Minis with The ToeStation Mini

If you race 1/12 scale mini cars, you already know how skittish and sensitive they can be on the track. Firstly, getting your mini to drive in a clean, straight line helps you gain control of lap times. In this guide, based on our video walkthrough, we cover how to use The ToeStation Mini—an ingenious 3D-printed setup kit designed specifically for 1/12 mini racers (tested on Battcave, Mardave, and Kamtec chassis).

What’s Included in the Toestation Mini Kit?

Inside the Toestation Mini box, you’ll find everything needed to measure and lock in precise front-end geometry:

  • Setup Bar & Measurement Ruler: A 3D-printed bar to measure toe angles and total steering travel.

  • Left & Right Axle End Plates: Precision plates that mount to your front stub axles.

  • Force Wheels & Grommets: Dedicated setup discs for checking Steering End Point Adjustment (EPA).

  • Camber Block & Molly Grease

  • Instruction Manual

Step 1: Pre-Setup & Transmitter Preparation

Before installing the ToeStation Mini hardware, prepare your car and radio settings:

  1. Set Ride Height: Adjust your rear and front ride height adjusters to your preferred race setting (e.g., ~3.4mm–3.6mm in the rear).

  2. Zero Out Radio Trims: Set your transmitter’s steering trim to 0.

  3. Reset Steering Rates: Set Dual Rate (D/R) and Steering End Points (EPA) to 100%.

  4. Centre Servo Saver: Adjust your sub trim until the servo saver sits completely vertical.

Step 2: Installing the ToeStation Mini Setup Blocks

  1. Remove Front Wheels: Take off your front wheels and extract the wheel bearings.

  2. Mount Bearings into Setup Blocks: Insert the extracted wheel bearings directly into the L (Left) and R (Right) setup blocks.

  3. Secure Blocks on Axles: Slide the setup blocks onto the front axles, insert the retaining inserts, and thread on the axle nuts to secure them.

  4. Attach Setup Bar: Slide the measurement bar across both setup block pins.

Step 3: Setting Zero Toe & dialling in Toe-Out

  1. Place Car on a Flat Surface: Place the car on a flat, level surface to prevent frame twist.

  2. Zero Out Both Sides: Using a turnbuckle wrench, adjust your left and right steering turnbuckles until both setup block indicators point exactly to .

  3. Set Desired Toe-Out: Once zeroed, turn the turnbuckles outward evenly to establish your race toe-out setting (e.g., of toe-out on each side).

Step 4: equalising Steering Throw (EPA)

An essential step for predictable handling is ensuring your car turns equally in both directions:

  1. Next, determine the total steering travel in millimetres to both sides using the gauge marks on the setup bar.

  2. If travel is asymmetrical (for instance, 25.8mm one way vs. 35mm the other), access your radio’s Steering EPA menu.

  3. Fine-tune the left and right steering end points independently until total throw is identical on both sides (e.g., equalised to 30mm travel each way).

Step 5: Final Adjustments & Track Prep

  • Reinstall your wheels and bearings.

  • Reduce your transmitter’s Dual Rate (D/R) to around 70%–75% to suit your personal driving style and track grip levels.
