SkyRC FuriaX Combo Review — Budget Brushless Power With Surprising Control
When SkyRC reached out and asked if I wanted to test their new FuriaX brushless motor and ESC combo, I didn’t need much convincing. However, the name alone sounds rapid—Furia X. The full combo costs £53 and targets hobbyists seeking proper brushless performance without paying big money.
Consequently, I installed the combo into my Schumacher Vibe and went to Medway RC Raceway for race night. Here’s how it went.
⚙️ What SkyRC Is Trying to Do With the FuriaX
SkyRC says the FuriaX is designed as an entry level brushless system for touring cars, bashers, and off‑roaders. It’s fully waterproof and dustproof, and unlike many budget systems, it’s been developed by racers for racers.
“This motor is supposed to represent a significant step up in sensorless motors… developed by racers for racers.”
As someone who prefers sensored motors for their smooth low end control, I was curious to see whether this sensorless setup could keep up.
📦 First Impressions & Unboxing
SkyRC has actually put effort into the packaging — always a good sign.
Inside the box you get:
- The FuriaX four pole brushless motor
- The matching ESC
- Manual
- Pre‑soldered XT60 connector
- Colour‑coded motor wires (ABC)
The motor itself feels properly chunky, with neodymium magnets, a precision cut pinion shaft, and a solid cooling design.
“Getting the motor out straight away, it’s real heavy, nice chunky motor… four‑pole brushless motor, neodymium magnets.”
The ESC also feels well‑built, with a smart layout and a BEC capable of 6V or 7.4V, ideal if you’re running high voltage servos.
📱 App‑Based Programming (No Programming Card Needed)
One of the standout features is the RC Gears app, which replaces the usual programming card. Once installed, you can adjust:
- Running mode
- Punch
- Brake force
- Drag brake
- Reverse strength
- Motor poles
- BEC voltage
- Thermal cut‑off
“You do not need a programming card… there is an app you can download and you will be able to control punch, curve, braking, drag brake and all that.”
The app connected instantly and gave live feedback from the ESC — throttle position, steering, and system status.
🔧 Installation Into the Schumacher Vibe
The install was straightforward:
- The motor’s six mounting holes made alignment easy.
- Pinion mesh was set with a slight rock for smooth running.
- ESC was mounted using VHB tape after degreasing the chassis.
- Colour‑coded wires made it impossible to mix up ABC.
- Connected to the receiver on channel 2.
- Calibrated throttle using the ESC’s built‑in routine.
“We have life… motor and ESC are wired in… calibrated up.”
Once everything was tidy, it was ready for race night.
🏁 Track Test at Medway RC Raceway
This is where the FuriaX surprised me.
I’m used to sensorless motors feeling very binary — on/off, bang‑bang, no finesse. But the FuriaX felt smooth, controlled, and genuinely usable in a racing environment.
“Didn’t really notice it wasn’t sensored… much more smooth, much more control.”
Low end throttle response was excellent, and the punch felt predictable rather than aggressive. Steering was sharp once the BEC was set to 7.4V for the high‑voltage servo.
The Vibe chassis itself continues to be temperamental, but the motor wasn’t the issue — it performed brilliantly.
🧪 What’s Next?
You mentioned you’ll be testing the FuriaX in:
- Your Tamiya TT‑01
- A basher for off‑road abuse
Given the waterproof ESC and four‑pole motor, I suspect it’ll shine in a basher setup.
👍 Final Verdict — A Big Thumbs Up
Overall, for £53, the SkyRC FuriaX combo is an absolute bargain. It’s well‑built, easy to install, app-programmable, and — most importantly — far smoother than most sensorless systems in this price range.

If you’re upgrading from brushed or trying brushless for the first time, this is a cracking option.
